Consumers Energy adds another award to the trophy case.
Great news! In recognition of our New Home Construction program’s continued commitment to promoting energy-efficient homes, ENERGY STAR® recently presented Consumers Energy with the 2017 Certified Homes Market Leader Award.
Built from the ground up for comfort, quality and efficiency, ENERGY STAR certified homes use 15–30 percent less energy than typical new homes. That’s why we’re proud to say that out of the 1,651 ENERGY STAR homes built in Michigan last year, more than 900 belonged to Consumers Energy families. Collectively, those homes were responsible for saving over 274,000 kWh of electricity in 2016 alone.
According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculations, that’s equivalent to:
- Reducing CO2 emissions by 1,552 metric tons
- Growing 39,517 tree seedlings for 10 years
- Avoiding the consumption of 3,610 barrels of oil
- Removing 327 passenger vehicles from the road
We love having such a positive and meaningful impact on the environment, and are thrilled to continue supporting the program with resources and expert guidance for interested builders and potential homeowners.
